We are still here, reading comics and sharing beers. We have made it to Louise Simonson’s final appearance as writer of the main series…I will give you all a moment to collect yourselves. For her final story, Weezie is having Alex take on gunrunners and smoking. So let’s dive directly into the deep end of the pool, shall we?

Boom

Now you may be asking, how does Alex deal with stress? If you are, it is a good question, and we do have an answer. Ya see, he shoves it all into a little ball and puts it into the pit of his stomach. Which is not good. He really should follow Jack’s lead and change his hair color every panel. It really helps.

Changing Hair

Another way Alex deals with stress is by taking out the garbage. It really does help with calming that which ails you. First, it keeps the house from stinking, and second, it allows you to power up so you can blast bad guys.

Eat Garbage Can

We can also point out ways not to deal with stress. First, do not chew on pens. It is not hygienic, and you could accidentally chew off the top, swallow it, and suffocate.

Eat Pen

Going back to Alex and good ways of stress management, is cardio. Alex does a lot of running, and that really does help to soothe the soul.

Eat Undercarriage

Some people find that going to a gun range and sending a few rounds down range really cools them off. This can be a reasonable release as long as it is done in a safe manner and environment.

Unclean Larry

And to be clear, an alley way is not a safe environment…and it will make Alex cranky.

Triple Shot

So, there are some steps to deal with stress that do not involve tying it up in your stomach. Now, if we can just stop people from being jerks to Power Pack, all would be well.

Oh NO

As promised, here are some of the pictures of the Power Pack figures that Stephen Gray made for his kids.  Be jealous that you cannot play with these.

  1. If Weezie gives doing bad things to the characters she likes, then she must LOVE Alex.
    SMASH CUT!
How can there be a character named Yancy in this story, and no mention of Ben Grimm’s arch…nemesises? Nemesus? Nemesauts?
    SMAST CUH!
Katie holding her head with a look of “What is happening here? Where did we go wrong?” is the funniest-greatest thing I’ve seen in a while!
    STASH MUC!
I don’t know if we give Alex enough credit for doing tiny power balls. Katie never did that, and this gives him finer control and more accurate aiming. Good for you, Alex.
    CHASM SUT!
Finally, an issue that mimics the way I write feedback. But all these “SMASH CUT” things are making my stomach hurt. Oh wait, it’s just the never-ending ennui of this abysmal era of public health and safety boring a gaping hole into my very soul. WHEW! That’s a relief!
    HULK SMASH!
So sorry to see Weezie’s last issue, but looking forward to more Bog-man. Thanks for the fun episode, and take care of yourselves, my Pack-men.

  2. Yup, she loves Alex.
    CHAZ TUT!
    Nematode.
    BASH PUT!
Spoilers, Alex shooting mutliballs is brought up I’m a future podcast.
    TAZ HUT!
Yup, it is an interesting time that we live in currently.
    FAST NUT!
The plus side is that we now get to have Weezie and June doing Power Pack again from time to time in our current timeline. That said, Weezie did say that the new mini series might be on hold with the way that the world is right now. Still, holding out hope for that. There is also the fact that Bog’s stuff is really good.
    CUT SMASH!
Be well friend and wave at your family for us. Talk at you later.

  3. Cheers to Louise Simonson – she knows how to leave a lasting impression, that’s for sure! (how did Steve Heyer get the credit? I never knew Louise wrote this issue!) Speaking of lasting ‘impressions’, y’all’s are hilarious and entertaining, especially in the outtakes at the end. More Peter Griffin please (maybe that’s what Bossko sounds like?)!

Here’s what I’m still wondering – how did Alex escape that explosion unscathed?? At first, I thought he absorbed the explosion with his power, but he wasn’t wearing his costume – wouldn’t his clothes still be incinerated? He’s gotta absorb energy directly through his skin, right? His siblings saved him and his clothes looked like new.

Here’s my theory – Julie put a density field around him without even realizing she did it. She must have solidified to do it, then clouded away just in time, the flames licking her feet, which were the last part of her to go cloudy. Where’s my evidence? Pg. 28 – the image of them all flying down to hug/high-five Alex (I love that pic of Katie’s rainbow gliding all across the panel – that one’s stuck with me over the years). Look at Julie – she’s the only one without her booties! Those booties must be stabler than the rest of those unstable molecules, because they’re gone! Burned away? Hmmm…

    1. My personal favorite part of the episodes is always the out takes. Most likely this is just due to the randomness and on the spot funny of them, so I am glad that you like them too. Kinda of a nice way to pull back the curtain and show that at the end of the day we are just a couple of guys goofing around and having fun.

I think that his clothes got a little worse for wear in the following panel, but I am probably just misremembering it…maybe the same beings that work on his Pack suit repair his street clothes while they are there? Your theory is as good as any, and a whole lot better than mine. 😛 I am going to assume that the clothes were supposed to be shredded but the artist just didn’t make it seem that way because a “Costume on!” was in the pipe and it was time to move on to the next scene. Never noticed the booties bit though, good eyes!
