Power Pack #47: Elsewhere

You can listen to the episode by clicking: Episode 61.

Hold onto your understanding of physics and your library card cause things are about to go 90 degrees with this no holds barred dive into where the costumes go where the kids say “Costumes Off”.  That is right, it is time for Elsewhere! And you want to know who is really happy about it….Walt and Weezie…..errr I mean Jim and Maggie Power!

Untitled

I will also tell you who is not happy….Mr Jar Head Alex.  Even though this is all his idea….well, the changing around of costumes is… he still is the guy who ends up looking really silly.

Jar Head

But we are getting ahead of ourselves. What we need to do before we go on this great adventure is eat a great breakfast while your father recites poetry….and your mommy drinks.

Day Drinking

But let us move on to Elsewhere.  What is this magical place where Katie has found herself? What magical adventures await our brave young hero.

Great Tracks of Land

Well, for starters, it is drawn and written by the incredible Jon Bogdonove. That right there should tell you this place ROKS!  Get it….Roks!!!

Council of Roks

Seriously folks. This place has the logic and physics of a four year olds interpretation of an Escher painting. And it is chock full of literary references too. It is a beautiful, if not crazy trip into comic land.

Edge of the World

And by the end of the trip, you may be just a little exhausted. Never forget to tuck yourself in and catch a few winks when you can.

Tired

Also, this story is nothing more than an excuse to explain why these two panels work.  That is it. An entire comic book to explain this one panel.

  1. OMG, you guys were so hilarious in this episode! Your voices for the Dr Strange ad! “Never make a deal with Tim Price.” And hadn’t even reached the comic! LOLOLOLOL!

That’s weird, a Katie issue, but she’s teamed with a character who’s not named “Frank”. (Richards or Castle.) Oh wait, I forgot, Bosco’s full name is Boscichelli Frankfurt Frankington. Whew, I was worried for a second there.

Now, forgive me if I missed you guys talking about this, but I expected to hear you mention the identities of the characters in the kingdom, as they’re from old comic strips. The King even made a sly reference to “King Features”, the name of the newspaper comic syndication group. The two guys who bring chairs to Katie and Bosco are definitely the stars of Mutt & Jeff. The King and Queen/Oracle I had to look up to verify, but I believe they’re Jiggs and Maggie from Bringing Up Father. But you knew that already right? Because there’s no way I caught that and you didn’t. Of course not. That would be inconceivable.

So I couldn’t agree more that Bog made a fantastic issue here, and I’m excited for your interview with him! I’ll just have to eat lots of rainbow stripe candy to pass the time. Mmmm, rainbows….

Thanks for the laughs, my Pack-Men!

    1. Glad you enjoyed and that we were able to make you laugh. That said, I think that “Never make a deal with Tim Price.” is really good life advice…the guy is like a magic monkey’s paw I tells ya!

Phew! Glad you cleared up the mystery of Bosko’s name. Behind the scenes we were having Frank related existential crisis. But now you have cleared that up for us. I can finally sleep easy again.

Prepare to be inconceived (a real word that I just made up)! we didn’t know who the identities of the characters were. We figured that they were either characters from some old comic strips or inspired by them. I know that we claim to do deep dives but our pool is actually quite shallow sometimes. Kyle Cinelli brought up the “Bringing up father” angle to us as well on our FB page. But you, sir, have named names in an amazing way. For that, you get our coveted and rare “You caught it when we didn’t” award. You can redeem this award at our podcast for a fabulous prize!! (Editors note: prize is not fabulous and in fact, does not exist.)

You are going to love the Bog interview, it was a lot of fun and pretty informative as well. Enjoy the rainbow stripe candy and we will chat at ya later!

      1. Gasp! The “You caught it when we didn’t” award”?! I never saw that coming! I’m so honored. I’d like to thank Jesus, my parents, and especially my wife and kids for not wanting any family time so I can listen to your podcast and research obscure characters for hours on end! WOO!
