Power Pack and Cloak & Dagger: Shelter From the Storm

You can listen to the episode by clicking: Episode 62.

Hold on to your high tops and get ready for a Blast from the Past, because we are going Back to the Future in our Hot Tub Time Machine.  And by that I mean, we are reviewing a book that came out at the same point we are at in our regular series, but it deals with the kids at a point about two years earlier.  Man, so glad that we decided to call in Cullen Stapleton from the Worst Comic Podcast Ever to help us out of this wibbly wobbly timey wimey snafu so that we can get back to having an Excellent Adventure.20200701_213641

The kids are all in their original costumes with their original powers, and they have already met and befriended Cloak and Dagger.  They also have had Cloak and Dagger over to their home, so let’s just say that this takes place after the Thanksgiving episode. Sure. That sounds good. Now we should talk about this issue.

Cloak Mad

Cloak and Dagger are on hand to provide a McGuffin for the plot to kinda/sorta talk about runaways.

Entrance

Power Pack shows up to help.

Bad Dude

Characters have nightmares.

Nightmares

Dreamer

Wash Out

And all of this leads up to a giant pedophilia purple people eater showing up to be the big bad in the final act. Good times.

Cadaver

The book features some questionable story beats and interesting artistic choices that leave our team really scratching our heads. But at least Dagger gets to try and steal a baby, so that’s cool.

Hey...Wait

This issue does allow Cloak an opportunity to get out from Daggers shadow….see what I did there? Unfortunately, it emphasizes his dependence on her as well, which could have made a more interesting story arc.

The City

It is nice to see Cloak enjoying his work, you don’t often see that in today’s world.

Throwing the Horns

One final thought: When in doubt, mock the way someone else is dressed, because it always pays to be catty.

  1. At first I was sad. “Aw man, another Power Pack story I haven’t read.” But now I’ve listened to the show. So, I dodged a bullet there! Whew! I am not anxious to read that one now. I probably would if I ever get around to buying the PP Omnibus, but if not, I’ll just thank you guys and Cullen for covering it so I don’t have to. So, good job(?).

Here’s hoping the next issue you cover is better. Hey, maybe you’d get a guest for it as good as Cullen! Yeah right, like that could happen. You’ll probably end up with somebody who paid his way in, like a loser. Well at least you guys would be there to bring the funny.

    Till next time, my Pack-Men!

    1. Despite our ranking of it, I don’t think that it is a terrible read. There is just a lot going on and not everyone is used to their full potential. Dagger is an abused sexualized abuse victim of abuse. Cloak is hungry hungry hippos. And Power Pack is mostly just there. I mean, everyone does something and is useful (?) at one point or another, but at the end of the day, they were guesting in the Marjorie and Juan story.

Ugh, guests on the show…they are the worst. I mean, Cullen was great, and most everyone else was wonderful too, but if we have one more guest on… especially after an amazing interview… I just don’t know if I can take it. (Wink!)

Actually, really looking forward to our next guest. I don’t want to give out any spoilers, but you are going to love them. They are a truly wonderful human being and I for one feel lucky as all get out to have them on the show.

Till next time, “To me, my Assemblers!!”
