Fantastic Four #579: The Future Foundation

I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don’t care about you
It’s Friday I’m in love

Book and Beer

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Or Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday I’m in love

What are you talking about?

Saturday wait
Sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesitate

Kickin It

I don’t care if Monday’s black
Tuesday, Wednesday heart attack
Thursday never looking back
It’s Friday I’m in love

On Fire

Monday, you can hold your head
Tuesday, Wednesday stay in bed
Or Thursday watch the walls instead
It’s Friday I’m in love

That Ain’t No Orange Juice

Saturday wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesitate

Chillin at the Pad

Dressed up to the eyes
It’s a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throw out your frown
And just smile at the sound
And as sleek as a sheikh
Spinning round round round
Always take a big bite
It’s such a gorgeous sight
To see you in, in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It’s Friday I’m in love

Boot to the Head

I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don’t care about you
It’s Friday I’m in love

IT’S FRIDAY

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday I’m in love

  1. Good evening from the steadily cooling Southeast Missouri!

I just finished listening to the latest episode and my interest in the Future Foundation continues to grow. I give credit to you both for this. I’ve been hit or miss with the Fantastic Four book over my collecting years. I would check in on some random issue Carlos Pacheo had written/drawn, or Grant Morrison’s FF 1234, or bits of the Waid/Ringo collaboration off the news I would read from the dearly departed Wizard magazine. I know there’s a lot of love for the John Byrne era as well as Mr. Hickman’s but I just have never allotted the time or money to do a proper read through. These last two episodes you have released have me looking up the book through Amazon or mycomicshop.com.

Onto the issue at hand…. part of my trepidation of fully committing to a long story line is characterization. All books have this hit or miss interpretations of fictional characters, obviously, but the recap regarding Reed at the conference seemed a bit much. I am sure it’s to start the narrative, but the seemingly aggressive manner in his address informs my difficulty of giving this character any sympathy. There is smart and then obnoxious smart. The latter grates on my nerves heh! Obnoxious smart can be fun when quick and pithy, like many Aaron Sorkin characters. When Reed is written in this mode though, I hope Dr.Doom launches some ridiculous offensive against him.

The art from this issue seems slightly better than the Future Franklin issue. Same art team but also seems to have a better handle on some actual kid looks. Maybe it’s light boxed or referenced but it is better. I read there is a council of Reeds I think in Hickman’s run. This explains the ongoing council of Wells in The Flash over the past few seasons. I see that connection.

If you want an oddly relaxing video subject to watch, may I suggest landscaping? I have fell down the proverbial rabbit hole watching the wildest properties be trimmed, cut, and edged into presentable shape.

Well, looking forward to the next episode guys! Are you doing another cross-over event with other shows for Halloween?

    1. Hey Jeremy!

FF has always been an easy one for me to bounce off of. No real reason for it, maybe it is a little too fantastical for me? I have liked dipping my toes into the FF from time to time, and in fact have read some great stories from them, but they are a slippery one for me to hold tight to my reader’s heart. Glad to be covering them now though, as it forces me to get into something that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise.

Reed…oh Reed. I have so little love for this character and this portrayal of him furthers that. I mean, he can be and could be right about his feelings of his peers here, but c’mon man! There is leading a horse to water and then there is force feeding it vinegar…I think that’s the expression anyways. Sorkin characters are great. They say something mean that you can grin at, while Reed says something and it just makes me want to walk out of the room.

The art keeps improving in this series. Don’t know why that is, but maybe they just needed to get their feet under them or something? Huh. A council of Wells in the Flash? Gotta admit this is meaningless to me as I haven’t watched any of the Arrrowverse shows, but I do have Google to find out. Hmm, people seem to think that this is inspired by the Council of Reeds from FF. It is a fun idea though to pack a team with variations of the same character. Was Hickman involved with the show at all?

Funny you should bring up landscaping videos. I have recently watched some videos of a guy cleaning up overgrown sidewalks. I am like “This is dumb” and then chill out for a bit and watch as it becomes pretty and usable again, so I get the appeal. I have enough of my own landscaping that needs taking care of though that I don’t want to get guilted by other peoples landscaping successes…dang dandelions won’t get out of a section of my back yard!

A crossover event is in bound. We recorded it a week and a half ago. The theme of it is a surprise and after listening I think that you really see the payoff of how much prework we put into it. It was truly a labor of Hercules.

      1. Hey there! I don’t think Hickman has been involved with the Arrowverse Flash. There have been comics writers in the creative end of the pool though. Sterling Gates, Geoff Johns… The current show runner Eric Wallace did some work for DC post Final Crisis. It would not surprise me if these gents took an idea from Hickman.

Speaking of landscaping… I have been trying to keep up with mulching leaves from the multitude of trees that is in the backyard. Thankfully, autumn has really started so the leaves are falling faster. The neighboring houses have proverbial ponds of leaves that are starting to get into my yard and I get all Grandpa Simpson shaking my fist at a cloud. lol

Looking forward to the crossover event. It is a highlight on my calendar.

      2. I did some Arrowverse research…then I bounced off of it because I found I didn’t care enough to learn more. Weak of me I know, but I haven’t seen more than a handful of the DC shows so I didn’t have any skin in the game. I know plenty of people that watch them and like (?) them, but they are just one of many bits of media that I would like to see that I can’t find time for.

You are in good company when you shake your fist at a cloud. I do it too. In fact, I know several people that do it. Grampa Simpson’s unite!! I am a leaf raker myself, so I feel ya.

Crossover is out now. Was it all that you hoped for? If it wasn’t, that is on our end. We’ve never put so little effort into a project before. That said, it was fun to do. 🙂
