FF #12: All Hope Lies in Doom, Part 1: Too Many Kids

You can listen to the episode by clicking: Episode 139

So you decided to take a flight on Cheapskate Travel. You do not know the destination, you do not know the transportation, and you do not know if you will ever see your luggage again. Well, good luck, roll the dice.

Beer and Book

The world is your oyster, only you hate seafood. that is OK, because as your budget travel agent, we allow you to put your money into the things you care about, like world domination. Those oysters are not going to kill themselves. You are the man for the job.

I Hate Snow

As you pack for your trip, we suggest you be broad in your choices of clothing and gear. True, you have no idea if your luggage will arrive, but if it does, a bikini in the alps is not going to help you. Sometimes a suitcase full of blankets and some scissors is a better option.

Swing and a Miss

As you prepare to enter our debarkation lounge, be sure to look at all the fancy pieces of technology we have. Sure, some are broken, and some we do not know how to use, and some we know we should not use…but that is what is making this fun. Also, do you really NEED two legs?

Good Luck

No, we do not cater our travel. That is just wasted money and this is cheap. You may want to pack your own food, or just scavenge whatever looks fresh or unattended. Your choice, we really do not care.

Fish Sticks

Traveling in large groups is not the best idea. You may not all end up at the same location or you may all appear at the exact same location. Either way, it gets awkward and embarrassing. We suggest that you go solo on this one.

Are We All Here

If you arrive at your destination in one piece, congratulations, you have beat the odds. Now is the time to enjoy your luck and good fortune. Hopefully you have some money to get home.

We Made It

*Cheapskate Travel is not responsible for any of the unfortunate accidents that will probably happen over the course of your travel.

  1. Greetings my friends!

I just finished listening to episode 139 and have to thank you for another wonderful episode, I have never watched Ted Lasso, but you both speaking about it has piqued my curiosity.

What a wonderful and different cover by Steve Epting. A smartypants brigade tale requires a different type of art to be sure, yet I’m too unsure about Juan Bobillo is the type of cartoonist for the assignment. I did a search online about other work he has published and some of it is pretty good. That being said, the fact he is drawing kid characters and not really designating between them shows just how difficult it is for almost every artist to draw kids effective and consistently.

Kudos to Carrie with her take on the art. What a smart and very even handed approach to a style that probably caught a lot of online whining in its publication. It would be fun to hear her hop on and host with you both again sometime.

I hope you both are well and are surviving the summer.

    Later,
    Jeremy

    1. Hello!

If you have the means I highly recommend giving it aa look. Heck, I basically pieced it together by watching clips on YouTube, so there is always that route if you want to get a taster. It has great storytelling, characters and character growth to sink your teeth into. It is so nice to see them develop in a positive manner…it is kind of the polar opposite of Breaking Bad.

I could see this art design working for some storytelling. I think the problem with it was just how jarringly different it was from what we are used too. That and the inability to differentiate characters…and other stuff. Okay, look…it had problems, but some of those might have been from what we brought to table with our own preconceived bias’s…it is hard to tell. I am not familiar with the artists other works, and I haven’t gone to the trouble of looking up any other examples…too much other stuff on my plate. That said, I still don’t understand why people have such problems with drawing kids. In this case, I think that the reasons were stylistically driven.

We are surviving summer pretty well. Doing all the kid camp stuff that eats the day and trying to get some beach trips in. I am lucky to have AC, as it is 105 today. Due to the heat, I am slacking on other outside jobs that need doing, but this is giving me the chance to catch up on some inside work…responding to mail being a prime example. 🙂

Hope you are surviving, and I hope that you are doing well. talk at you later.

      -Jeff
