Avengers: Solo #1-5: Extra Credit

Let’s take a tiny backtrack to a backup story in Avengers: Solo and see how Finesse and Striker handle a little test created by Giant Man and Tygra. How is Power Pack involved…? Good question. Listen to the episode to find out.

Book and Beer

First of all, let’s define Solo. Solo does not mean that you have a partner or are in a smaller team from you original group. Which makes me always wonder about Han Solo. I mean, he is never really SOLO. And when he is, he get’s stuck in carbonite or killed. He is more like, Han Team. But I digress.

That is Not Death Valley

So when you are truly solo, you are going up against big odds by yourself. It is a challenge where you push your limits, and run the gauntlet on your own. Forget relying on others, charge your own trail.

Small Big Man

A great solo adventure would be one hero coming up against an army of robots that were created in the image of their teammates. That would be fantastic. And absolutely terrifying. What an absolute crushing defeat. Maybe they should have brought a team with them.

Robots at Rest

But if you were able to go solo against one robot, who would you choose? I would go up against Crowww….Yes, he would make me laugh, but I think I could take him. I definitely have the reach, and also, I am not a puppet.

Wonderbot Down

Back to talking about what is a solo adventure. According to some sources, it is acceptable to have a solo adventure and work with people during that adventure, focusing on people that you do not work with. With that in mind, I would like to go on a secret solo adventure and team up with Einstein and Mark Twain. I think that would be a hoot.

Bring the Thunder

Fighting by yourself against another opponent is the traditional version of what a solo adventure is about. And, if you are truly the hero of the story, you should do your best to win. Otherwise it will be a short story.

In the Old Breadbasket

Another non-traditional solo story would be to have a partner on your adventures and then kill them with their own arm near the end of the adventure and tell everyone that it was all done just by you. It is a choice you can make.

I Kill You

I really hope that I was not helpful today.

  1. After reading the first issue, I thought “Julie’s going to only appear on the last page with a wordless cameo.” Sure enough!

Because it’s Avengers, of course I read the main story as well, and eh-h-h-h, it had problems. Mostly, I found it hard to follow, so that was not fun.

The AA backup though was fun, and like you guys said, a good focus on a couple of the kids. I have a good time with it.

The only thing I personally wanted was for Tigra-bot to not have a tail, like at the beginning of West Coast Avengers. She got her tail after a year of WCA, and with the uniforms of the other bots, that would have been on theme. Ah well, nerd being demanding.

    Till next time, my Pack-bots!

    1. Tim Tim Price Price, the man so nice that I named him twice.

Check out the big brain on Brad! I mean Tim. Yeah, you called it buddy. The hint of that for me was when Rick dared me to try and find Julie in the issue. Didn’t know where she would show up, but I guessed that it was in the far background somewhere once or twice. Glad to see that she was more featured in her cameo than hidden.

It at least made sense by the time that was wrapping up. It wasn’t all that good, but I can totally tell you the plot of it…which is better than some comics I have read.

I would not be averse to some more kid focus. Nice to see the ensemble, but getting into the grit of characters is cool.

A no tail-a-bot would have been cool! I mean, it is a total piece of trivia that would have been lost to me, but really cool none the less. Now this less knowledgeable nerd demands that as well!

      Until next time, costume-bots off!

      -Jeff
